Price List and Guide for Choosing a STARLAB
There are nineteen (19) STARLAB system combinations and prices. The major differences between them are:
A. the type of projector (Standard, FiberArc, or Digital),
B. dome size (Standard or Giant),
C. classification of system by the number of accessories: projection cylinders, travel cases, pointers etc. (Basic, Deluxe, Super Deluxe and Ultra Deluxe) .
A. There are three types of projectors. The “Standard STARLAB Projector”, has been in production since 1978 (and is the projector most familiar to STARLAB users). It utilizes a high intensity small-filament tungsten halogen cycle lamp gimbaled to maintain a vertical position. The “FiberArc STARLAB Projector”, in production since 2002, utilizes a short-arc lamp that is three times brighter than the halogen lamp used in the standard projector. The arc lamp is located in the body of the projector. The concentrated light is delivered to the projection lens by a fiber-optic transport. Therefore, the light source at the projection lens in the FiberArc is cold to the touch. The FiberArc projector uses the “MultiLens Starfield Cylinder” which was specifically designed to take optimal advantage of the increased light. The projectors (Standard and FiberArc) are suited for use with all other projection cylinders. The “Digital STARLAB Projector” is capable of projecting an accurate, high-contrast, simulated night sky with the capacity to explore a multitude of motions and displays eliminating the need for slide / video projectors or sound systems. The Digital Projector is powered by “Starry Night Small Dome™” software. The Digital projector utilizes a fisheye lens and has a resolution of 720 pixels with a contrast of 7000:1 and a brightness of 1000 ANSI lumens. It uses DarkChip3 ™ & 3rd generation DLP.
B. There are two sizes of domes. Both STARLAB domes are made from Herculite VI, a nylon-reinforced, flame retardant, industrial grade fabric. The outer surface of this durable fabric insures opacity even in fully lighted rooms. The inside surface has an aluminized reflective coating designed for displaying images.
· The “Standard Dome” is more versatile in that it can be set up almost anywhere and can accommodate 25 to 35 children. It is 16 feet (4.8 meters) in diameter, 10.5 feet (3.2 meters) in height. A minimum floor space of 23 feet by 25 feet is recommended for the Standard Dome. The standard dome weighs 55 pounds.
· The “Giant Dome” can accommodate more than 60 children with their adult teachers. The Giant Dome is 22 feet (6.71 meters) in diameter with a height of 13.5 feet (4.12 meters). A minimum floor space of 30 feet by 32 feet is recommended for the Giant Dome. Height and size limit its use to a large room such as a gymnasium etc. The Giant Dome weighs just less than 100 pounds.
C. The four STARLAB systems are classified by the number of accessories:
1. A Basic System includes the Projector, Dome, Blower, a Starfield Cylinder, Planet Projector Set (SL-810), Moon Set (SL-812), one (1) LED pointer and one (1) additional cylinder of your choice (valued at $675.00 each). A curriculum manual and travel cases for the blower, projector and cylinders are also included.
2. A Deluxe System includes the Projector, Dome, Blower, a Starfield Cylinder, Planet Projector Set (SL-810), Moon Set (SL-812), three (3) LED pointers and five (5) additional cylinders of your choice (valued at $675.00 each). A curriculum manual with slides and travel cases for the blower, projector and cylinders are also included.
3. The Super Deluxe System includes the Projector, Dome, Blower, a Starfield Cylinder, Planet Projector Set (SL-810), Moon Set (SL-812), three (3) LED pointers and nine (9) additional cylinders of your choice (valued at $675.00 each). A curriculum manual with slides and travel cases for the blower, projector and cylinders are also included.
4. An Ultra Deluxe System includes the Projector, Dome, Blower, a Starfield Cylinder, Planet Projector Set (SL-810), Moon Set (SL-812), three (3) LED pointers and thirteen (13) additional cylinders of your choice (valued at $675.00 each).
